DESIGNER       DIRECTOR       PROGRAMMER       OPERATOR

 

For the past 35 years Dave Hill has been responsible for the design, co-design, programming and operation for the lighting to the top names in the entertainment industry worldwide. 

MUSIC

Most recently the Lighting Designer for The Eagles, the acts Dave has worked with include a 25 year working relationship with Patrick Woodroffe as associate designer/programmer for The Rolling Stones, and lighting designer and show director for the highly rated 2007 Led Zeppelin concert at the O2. His credits also include Genesis, Queen, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Mike Oldfield, Phil Collins, Luciano Pavarotti, The Three Tenors, Placido Domingo, Russell Watson, Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger Solo Tour, Live Aid, Diana Ross, Elton John, Sting, Simply Red, Toto, Gary Moore, The Bee Gees, George Michael, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Rush, Tina Turner, Australian Pink Floyd, Pet Shop Boys, Amici, Mike Oldfield, Stevie Wonder, Simon and Garfunkel, George Benson, Mondo Rock, Boomtown Rats, Madness, Devo, Peter Maffay, Michel Berger, Mirelle Mattieu, Garth Brooks, Mr Children, MC Hammer and Afro Celts.

Dave has also programmed lighting for many festivals including Roskilda, Rocking Rio 2, Hollywood Rock Festivals and The Summer Pops Festival in Liverpool.

TV/DVD/VIDEO

With the cameras rolling Dave has worked on a wide range of projects. He was nominated for an Emmy - 'Outstanding Lighting Direction' for The Garth Brooks Show in Central Park. Dave was closely involved in the lighting for DVDs and videos of a number of Cirque de Soleil touring shows, as well as for most of the other musical artistes he has worked with. His TV work encompasses TFI, The Tube, Trevor Nelson’s Urban Choice, The Ruby Wax Show, Johnny Vegas Show, The Baftas and The Brits plus many one-off TV specials. These include The Prince’s Trust, Guitar Legends, Tribute to Freddie Mercury, Great Music Experience-Japan, Twix Mix TV special, Songs and Visions, Amnesty International Paris, Star TV Istanbul. Tsumani Concert of Hope, Miss World 2002/3/4, Celebrity Comic Relief and The Montreaux Jazz Festival.

SPECIALS

Dave programmed lighting for The Millenium Dome Opening (central show and exterior lighting), The Queen’s Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace, The Queen’s 50th Wedding Celebrations, the Launch of the Queen Mary 2, Vanity Fair project, Military Tattoo Bahrain and a WWA Wrestling UK Tour.

AWARDS SHOWS

Dave has programmed many awards ceremonies including The Brits, The Baftas, The Cesar Awards, The D&AD Awards, The Capital Radio Awards, The People’s Awards, The Golden Egg Awards, The Disney Awards, The Mobos and  The Unicef Awards.

DANCE

Dave’s skills have also been utilised in a variety of projects in the specialist field of dance. He has lit shows for Michael Flatley (Lord of the Dance), Bounce (modern dance), Burn the Floor (Ballroom dancing), the English National Ballet's Swan Lake (in the round) at The Royal Albert Hall and The Bejart Ballet.

CLASSICAL/MUSICALS/THEATRE

Equally adaptable to the theatre, Dave’s jobs have included Lighting Designer to Luciano Pavarotti, Les Miserables 10th Anniversary, Les Miserables in Concert, Classical Spectaculars, Evita Touring Show, The Prince's Trust Gala Opera, The Planets, Christmas in Vienna with Charlotte Church, The Blues Bros, Godspell, The Wheel of Life (Shaolin Monks), Ira Gershwin Celebration, The Night of a 1000 Voices at the RAH alongside a diverse selection such as Jane Austen’s Emma, Strange Kind of Hero Musical, Last of the Divas, and Bob the Builder Arena show.
